A Request for Paid Vacation
Requesting vacation time can be a great way to enjoy some time away with your family or friends. No matter what the employee’s situation and relationship with their place of employment is, requesting a paid vacation should be easy and not damage their professional relationship.
How a Paid Vacation is Granted
A paid vacation, as the name implies, is a vacation the employee can take while still enjoying payment from their company. Often, the terms behind the vacation are agreed upon in the employment contract. In some cases, however, vacation days are not available, or they may have already been used up and the employee may want more. In these situations, requesting additional vacation days can allow individuals to have vacation time at the discretion of the employer. Creating a formal written request is an excellent way to discuss terms with the employer.
Requesting a Paid Vacation
Timeliness is important. Employees should try to submit a written request letter as early as possible in order to increase the chances of their employer getting back to them, this is true for both contracted and additional vacation leave. Not only should the letter be submitted early, but it is critical for individuals to plan their vacation around a holiday in order to coincide with related plans the employer may already have for them. If the employee needs to have a few days off for another reason, such as a wedding, it is important to be specific in the letter itself so that the employer is fully informed of the situation.
Not all formal requests are successful, but submitting one is an excellent way to display responsibility, especially if the employee goes above and beyond the call of duty in the workplace frequently. Individuals who feel as though they are being treated unfairly may contact a lawyer to learn more about their rights and what may constitute as unfair treatment in the workplace.
